Welcome back to the 2,012 trophies by 2012 blog. I am sorry I missed you guys last week, it was not intentional. I was literally away from my computer for like 3-4 days, and had to get back on track. Unfortunately I did not get to platinum Dead Space 2 or Extraction yet, but I am hoping to get those finished before the end of this month. First off I want to talk about a game that I just recently beat, and give my review on it. The game is called Stacking by Double Fine, which is about Russian nesting dolls.
Okay so stacking is a puzzle game and is cute while doing it. You take control of a little boy who's dad went missing, and then everyone but his mom goes missing. He ventures out to find his family, and finds out an evil Baron is using them as slaves to run his transportation. That means you have to save them, but your just the littlest nesting doll around, but you have the ability to sneak into other nesting dolls that are one size up. The puzzles come in when you take over a bigger nesting doll they have special abilities and you use these abilities to complete the story, goals, and even Hi-Jinks.
Review:
Sound - Not much sounds, pretty much just classical music playing in the background. The game seems to take place way back when picture films had no sounds, and the words were written on the screen that way you knew what was going on. The Piano got old real fast, even for someone who is musically disabled such as myself I could tell at times that who ever was playing the piano was way off beat.
Gameplay - The gameplay kept me interested, and the game was just long enough for me not to get bored with it. Jumping into dolls you haven't seen before was fun, also each doll having their own unique abilities was cool. They also expanded a puzzle to be solved in multiple ways, which I thought was cool. You could even talk to people around the puzzle to help you solve it. If you still couldn't figure it out they had hints in the pause menu that would nudge you in the right direction.
Playability - The controls were real simple, triangle was used to hop into a doll. square was used to talk, and x was to use their ability. The game was very clean smooth and responsive, and I didn't run into any bugs or glitches.
Story - The story was compelling and simple, but my main problem was you had to read the cutscenes. It's a cheap way to make a game, and they were overcharging for this game in the first place (PS+ members got it for free) you become attached to the little guy that you controlling even though you don't see him for 75% of the game because your inside other dolls (that just sounds wrong).
Replayability - non what so ever, they were charging $15 for a game that you may get 10 hours out of, and that's shooting high. I think I got 100% in about 7 hours of gameplay. No multiplayer, no higher difficulty, no new game + or anything that would give replayability.
Overall the game was very cute, and this game may not be for everyone (including me, I only beat it because of the trophies). If your into puzzles with cute ideas and character then this game is definitely for you. This game is not terribly bad or boring it just wasn't a game I would normally play.
Onto the trophy talk. I beat Hard Core mode, and I have the videos of the harder fights in Hard Core mode. I have 1 trophy left and that is beating the game on Zealot difficulty. I just ran through the first 7 levels in less than 2 hours. I should have zealot beat in 4-5 more hours. Literally the Hand Cannon makes it easy mode.
I have yet to touch extraction since I beat it. I have been to busy with Dead Space 2, Stacking, and working in general. I've been trying to make a time for it, but with work, searching for a car, and all this other stuff it's been tough. I'm sure if I sit down and play extraction for two days I could have all but maybe a handful of trophies left. I'm not sure whether it will be this week or next month that I platinum it. I am for sure platinuming Dead Space 2.
Not only has extraction not gotten a time of day, but either has Demon's Souls. I seriously haven't even picked that up for 2 weeks. I still need to play Mass Effect 2, which I'm thinking will happen when both Dead Space games are done. I might even throw in some Batman Arkham Asylum in, as it's a quick platinum.
On top of that I have Bulletstorm and Killzone 3 coming in next week. Plus I purchased an arcade stick to help me with some of the trophies in SSFIV, and will most likely purchase Marvel Vs. Capcom 3.
Okay so now I will move on to the videos of Hardcore mode. I'm hoping some of you buy this game try it out enjoy it, and then I hope everyone takes a shot at Hard Core mode it really isn't all that bad.
Chapter 1 & 2
Chapter 3, 4, & 5
Chapter 6, 7, & 8
Chapter 9
Chapter 10
Chapter 11 & 12
Chapter 13, 14, & 15
And that about wraps it up. Thank you guys for viewing/watching my blog. I'm gonna try and finish extraction on top of Dead Space 2, so tune it next week to find out if that happens or not.
